Contemporary mixed media collage artwork with feathers and porcupine quills by Shirley Robinett.
Contemporary mixed media collage artwork with feathers and porcupine quills by Shirley Robinett.
If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind contemporary art that brings depth and meaning to your space, you’re in the right place. I create original mixed media collage art—a distinctive form of contemporary art inspired by Montana’s landscapes, animals, birds and stories. Each piece blends painted papers, natural elements, and layered textures, inviting you to pause, reflect, and discover something personal. I believe art can heal, uplift, and connect, and I craft every collage to spark joy and meaning for its new home.
As a Montana artist, I’ve developed a recognizable style through decades of experience and inspiration. In my studio in the heart of Montana, I hand-paint and cut paper, assembling each collage with natural elements like feathers, wildflowers, grasses, and porcupine quills—materials that carry texture, history, and a deep sense of place. Each work is created with care and offered with a quiet blessing, so it carries not just beauty, but presence.
Whether you’re an art collector, interior designer, or simply drawn to meaningful work, I invite you to explore my gallery of contemporary mixed media collages. Let the art speak to you—and see what it reveals.

"Facing the Storm" will be available for purchase at the Bozeman Public Library this September as part of The Art Pod Group Art Show. Alongside five talented fellow artists, we will be showcasing more than 20 stunning pieces of art. A portion of the sales will be donated to support the library.
"Facing the Storm" is a unique mixed media collage capturing my interpretation of a bison confronting a storm. It's believed that unlike other animals which flee from storms, the bison boldly faces them. While some creatures choose to escape, this only extends their ordeal and exposure to the storm's harsh elements. The bison's fearless charge into the storms serves as a powerful symbol, reminding us of our ability to bravely confront life's challenges head-on.
"Facing the Storm" received the First Place Award at the 59th Annual Community Art Show Exhibition & Sale, Cody Country Art League in 2024. To create this piece, I used cattlemarkers, watercolors, colored pencils, acrylics, legally harvested feathers in Montana, leaves, porcupine quills and a buffalo nickel. It is framed approximately 31"x39" behind UV conservation grade protective glass.

"The Royal Family" captures the beauty of nature with this family of sandhill cranes, featuring two majestic adult cranes and their colts in their natural habitat.
Framed 17"x14"
$825
"The Tree of Life" is my rendition of the Tree of Life written about in scripture:
“On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of nations.”
Framed 18" x 20 1/4"
$1500
In this dreamscape spun from my imagination, the colorful and whimsical horse named “Destiny” dances through the velvet expanse of the night sky. With every graceful step, the horse weaves constellations into existence, leaving a trail of stardust in its wake, a celestial ballet that enchants all who gaze upon her.
Framed 17" x 14.5"
$980
“In the Garden” captures a quiet moment as two sandhill cranes stroll gracefully through the grass and flower blossoms. These majestic birds are known for their lifelong pair bonds and elaborate courtship dances. This piece reflects their quiet companionship and the serene beauty of nature when we pause long enough to notice.
Framed 11"x8"
$450
“Coyote Stole Fire” is my rendition of the Shoshone Tale of how Coyote and his friends stole fire from the Fire Spirits and brought it to the people so they would survive.
Framed 17 1/8" x 20 3/4"
$1600
"Chasing Dreams" is a reflection of my journey. I capture moments, collect fragments of inspiration, and channel my struggles and beliefs into each creation. Every work I make builds upon the last, one step at a time. This running horse symbolizes where I am right now—pushing forward, chasing dreams. My hope is that you’re chasing yours too—and that you never stop.
Framed 33.5" x 26"
$4475
Inspired by a quiet walk beneath a canopy of aspens on a sunny autumn afternoon, I created “I’ll See You in September” and filled it with love and prayers of a blessing. This piece is a reflection of those quiet moments—where inspiration doesn’t shout, but whispers through fluttering leaves and sunlit air.
Framed 10 3/16" x 13 1/8"
$625

"We just received our third original of Shirley’s artwork. Two of pieces were commissioned subjects that thrill us and make us smile every time we see them. The character, humor, creativity, and beauty of this art is almost unbeatable. We are so happy to add our new piece to our growing collection of wall hangings, mugs, and cards. Our main problem is that the cards are almost too wonderful to use." TLB & HJB, Michigan
"I was immediately drawn to Shirley's unique style of combining watercolored paper with other carefully curated materials to create beautiful works of art. Her work delights the eye and inspires feelings and one finds a true appreciation of the depth, thought and talent in her compilations. Each of her pieces tells a story and Shirley attaches a beautifully written note with materials used, inspiration for the work and the love that emanates from the process. I absolutely loved representing her paintings and was always excited to see what she would bring in the gallery next! " AG, Montana
My husband and I currently own four stunningly beautiful pieces of Shirley’s art, one of which is a commissioned piece of our baby girl (dog), Alli. Unknown to me, she timed the delivery as a surprise for my birthday. To say that I was deeply touched to the very depth of my soul by the incredibly beautiful piece AND her thoughtfulness would be an understatement! Clearly, her heart and soul goes into every piece she creates… and to the one fortunate enough to own any piece she has created, you feel that every time you look at it!" LR, Utah
